Welcome to the
Eastern Pacific Ocean Conference
(EPOC)

Now in its seventh decade, the Eastern Pacific Ocean Conference has long served as a catalyst for oceanographic research off the west coast of North America. Each fall, EPOC brings the research community who study the Eastern Pacific Ocean (broadly defined) together for two-and-a-half days to share and discuss new findings through oral and poster presentations, to develop innovative collaborations, and to foster the next generation of ocean scientists. EPOC is a favorite meeting of many who attend, as it is a relatively small meeting, ranging from 50 to 80 attendees in any given year, typically meets in a secluded mountain setting, and is structured to encourage extended discussions among biological, physical, and chemical oceanographers, among observationalists and modelers, and among students, early-career researchers, and more senior scientists. The traditional structure of the EPOC program allows many conversations that begin in scientific sessions to continue on mountain trails or over shared meals in scenic surroundings. Because EPOC's scientific program varies from year to year, with sessions focused on themes that reflect community interest, EPOC convenes a unique mix of scientists and students each year. As a result, the EPOC community goes well beyond any one year's meeting and connects several hundred researchers across a broad range of disciplines. EPOC is particularly friendly to junior scientists, fostering a positive environment and encouraging students to develop their presentation skills and network with the research community.

EPOC is a non-profit, all-volunteer, non-advocacy organization dedicated to supporting development and communication of science focused on the eastern Pacific Ocean. You can help support this mission through a donation to EPOC, which will be used to defray conference costs and to promote attendance and career development of student and early-career scientists. Any such contribution is tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. For more information about EPOC, including information on how to make a contribution, please contact the EPOC President (Clarissa Anderson) or Treasurers (Noel PellandJasen Jacobsen).
